Baseball at Boyle

It was a sunny fall day at Boyle Park and I was playing baseball with my elderly teen brother Jonah and my friend Jackson. We were playing a normal game, just tossing the ball over the plate and hitting it. Pretty much what I did every day a few years ago. But this day wasn't normal.

A group of teenagers came strolling over and sat in the bleachers. They watched us. I didn't really care. To me it was just another group of another teenagers who would ruin our games. I wasn't aware of anything at the moment. "So, can we play?", the one with sagging pants said. "No", answered my brother with force. "Why?", they asked, getting annoyed now. "We are just playing alone", my brother answered. I was getting kind of scared now. Jackson was quiet, but I knew he was getting a little scared too. Then one of them headed out toward the mound. "Hey, kid, can I pitch one?", he asked. My brother was shaking his head saying NO. Jonah seemed pretty cool about the whole thing. "No", I squeaked back. "I'll give you my Ipod", he said stupidly with a quizzical look on his face. His doofess friends chuckled in the background. "You'll give him your Ipod?!", one of them said. "Hey, you guys, let's go to the other field", Jonah told us. So we started to walk over to the Minors field. They followed us. Now I was totally freaked. when they got over one of them said, "Hey, kid, you're cool but your brother's an @$%#$%@". "Let's, Let, Let's, um, go home" Jonah said with fright. "Let us bat! God! You #$*%&**%!" the sagger yelled. They got closer as we were backing away. "@#$%!". He had a skateboard, and then he did something that made my heart stop. He hurled his skateboard at my brother's almost whisker face and it barely missed. Then all three of us broke into a run.

We were running as hard as we could, scared out of our minds. I thought we were not fast enough but at least we were still ahead. The thing that made it more scary is that they were still on our backs and chasing us. And it didn't look like they were slowing down, either. We were now on the path near the bathrooms and running towards the majors field. We were getting nearer to the road now. "We're not gonna make it", I thought hopelessly. My legs felt like jelly. Then, by some amazing feat, a miracle happened.
I saw a car coming down the street. It looked familiar. Then I thought, WAIT, it's my dad's! And he was in it all right. Now all we had to do was make him stop. It might not be easy because he was probably thinking, Oh, they just walk the rest of the way. I sure hoped he wasn't thinking that. Or just not thinking at all. All three of us yelled, "WAIT!!! STOP THERE! PLEEAAAASE!".
And after about 15 yards of chasing he stopped near the hill down towards the Mill Valley Tennis Club. "Hurry up, hurry up go!", I panicked. All of us were panting hard at that moment. I looked back to look at them, and they were gone. But I caught a glimpse of the last one running down the hill into the tennis club. Only 30 seconds away from safety, I thought. Now it's over.
When I got home I looked around, still being a little paranoid, then dashed inside with Jonah and Jackson and locked the doors immediately. When we were inside we told my mom and dad what happened exactly with a few, "That was so scary" remarks and, "Oh my god, that was freaky". " I'll go down there and teach those teens a lesson", my dad said confidently. That made me feel better. Jackson stayed at our house for a while, so he would not have to walk all the way to his house, alone. The teenagers could still be out there, waiting for us. The idea of that made me shiver with fear. After a while of sharing the experience, my dad got in the car and drove Jackson home and I went with them. I never saw those teenagers again.

Late Night Fright

Tonight was the night, it had finally come, this was the very first chance I've had in my life to stay up all night ten times in a row, beat that! So, my SOS story began at seven or eight o'clock at night. Tonight Nathan, my friend, and I were having a sleep over. Now, every sleep over Nathan and I have together we have one main goal: stay up all night. Now we're kids, so that's just about every kid's "want to" in a sleep over. As it turns out, we usually do. So we're playing our Nintendo DS's, a small hand held video game about the size of your two hands.

We always turn the brightness down to two or three so we can see the screen, but if anyone walks in, they probably can't. Although we can never be sure. We talk really softly, if at all so the parents can't hear us. There probably asleep anyway. All of the sudden we hear a door open. Now, it was about twelve o'clock at night, so it was totally freaky.

"Eric," Nathan called down to me.

"What?" I replied. "

Did you hear that?"

"Yeah, I think it was my parents door opening!" I whispered up to my top bunk of the bunk bed where Nathan was laying still as a mouse.

I knew that if we got caught now, me and Nathan would lose our nine time all night streak. Instinctively we closed our games and put them under the covers. Apparently Nathan wanted to make sure that my game was put away.

"Eric put your game away and act like your asleep, you know what to do"! Nathan whispered.

But I couldn't turn off now! The foot steps were getting closer, and closer by the second. It seemed as if time itself was slowing down just to add all the tension. It sounded like giant sonic booms stomping up and down the hallway. I was sure that was busted for sure. I thought. And right when the footsteps where outside my room the very second I felt my breathing stop, and I mean, completely stop, not a peep out of me! And just when I thought all hope was lost, they continued down the hall going right by our room. Once we were sure that they were back in bed and sleeping I let out the quietest and longest sigh of relief I have ever harbored. And it turns out that it was my baby sister crying that got them up. Later, I thought back on that moment, and I realized that when I heard them coming It was the most fun I've had all night. Its a miracle I thought. And after the incident with my baby sister and the SOS, there were no more interruptions all night, and Nathan and I stayed up all night for the tenth time in a row. Which is the most times of staying up all night in a row of anyone I know.

Scared In a Big German House

My name is Maximilian von Buedingen, which I know, is quite a mouthful. My name is German and my story takes place in Germany, where my Oma and Opa (grandmother and grandfather) live. I've had a few scary moments in my life, but this one takes the cake.

I was 8 years old. My brother Oscar and I went to Schlier to visit my grandparents. Their house is beautiful and old, and has a really big garden. "Time to have a great time," I yelled, not knowing that just the opposite would, in a few days, be true.

One morning, Oscar and I were playing upstairs in the attic where there are two bedrooms, a playroom and a small storage area. In my opinion, it's the most creepy place in the house. It's dark and secret and a little bit scary. While we were up there, we didn't hear our grandparents say that they wanted to show our parents something. Oscar was, as usual, droning on and on and on and I remember getting sleepy, very sleepy. Suddenly, all that quiet woke me up. In that moment, Oscar and I realized how eerily, weirdly silent things had gotten. I admit I was a little scared. We tried calling out to everyone, but no one answered. "Oma, Opa, Mama, Papa?," we bellowed. Since no one answered, we screamed downstairs. "Hello? Is anybody there?" When we got no reply I remarked "Come on let's look for them." My voice was totally calm even though I was feeling a little worried.

Downstairs it was silent. I was very scared. When we peeked inside the room where they keep their t.v. We found no one except my grandparents' house cat Mimi, who just "mmmmrrrrrrpppp'ed" at us.

All that quiet and the middle aged sleepy cat somehow caused us to panic. We ran around in the garden screaming "AAAAAAHHHHHHHH." We even looked in their little one-room guest cottage near their teeny-tiny play structure. We screamed, we yelled, we bellowed for our parents. We looked if our car was still there and for any signs that they might have gone shopping or into town. Unfortunately for us, there were no shopping or city clues to be found and our car was still there. It was then that we started to actually cry.

Finally, we decided to explore the one room in the house we found really creepy -- the cellar. The cellar is dark and the air smells of mystery. My grandparents have their wine down there and shelves and shelves of stuff. When we looked downstairs, a light was on. We took a deep breath and burst into the cellar. We felt so silly when we found our grandparents simply showing our parents a new wine rack they had just bought. Once we got over the shock, it was hysterical and we all burst out laughing. We were happy to find our parents, but we were a little mad and at them too. It was a nice sort of family reunion and everybody laughed their heads off.

When People Brake Toes

"My pinky toe hurts!" I cried after severely landing on a basket ball while jumping on a trampoline.

"Lets go into the house and get some ice," my third grade best friend, Georgia, said meaningfully. As we got up the stairs and made our way inside, I was screaming, "OW, OW, OW" the whole time while four girls were taking my arm very tightly.
"I need to take a rest," the closest spot to rest was in the bathroom. I sat down on the toilet in pain. Thankfully the toilet lid was closed. I looked at my toe, it lo
oked like a balloon. Yes, it was that swollen.
When my friend gave me the ice she looked at my toe and her facial expression went berserk. It is true, my toe did look pretty gross. "I think you might of broken your toe," one of the girls said like she was some sort of advanced doctor. I took the ice and melted it on my toe. My friends were extremely close to me, so close that I could feel them breathing on me. This is my S.O.S. moment, not them breathing on me, but that I just broke my toe right before vacation to Monterrey. I JUST BROKE MY TOE BEFORE VACATION TO MONTERREY was all I thought about for the next twenty minutes. I went into the T.V. room, sat down on the couch and asked if I could watch a movie. Everyone came into the T.V. room and started shuffling their way through all the movies. They finally picked out the 'perfect' one that they all agreed on after trying for about twenty minutes, and then I decided that my toe was feeling a little bit better, even though it wasn't.
"Can we go back outside?" I say feeling stupid. Sighs of disappointment filled the room. "We pick a movie and then she wants to go outside," I hear one girl say under her breath. "Yeah!" Georgia said as the only girl that wanted to. All of a sudden right after she said that all the other girls started to chime in with her, surprise, surprise (you can never turn disagree with the Birthday Girl!). They all ran outside except for Georgia who was the only girl that realized that I would be limping. Thank god we're friends!
When it was time to go I was the last one to leave.
"Why are you limping?" My step mom asked. "Well," I say figuring out how to explain it, "I sort of, uh, humph, Let's see," I said figuring out how to explain it. Once I figured out how to say it I just blurted it out. "Right before vacation," she said as if she ruled the world, "nice going." "Yeah, I know, it wasn't the best move in the world. But I like the rest of the birthday party," I said trying to finish up the conversation.
Georgia and I exchanged goodbyes and I left.
For the next couple days I was limping 24/7.

"Dad, can I have crutches?" I screamed. "Why do you need them?" he screamed back. "What do think?" I screamed back acting all sassy.
My dad carried me into the car to go to Right Aid to get crutches I persuaded him to get me. He carried me over to the pharmacy to ask where the crutches were.
"Down the aisle, to left," he said in a thick Brazilian accent. My dad carried me to where the man pointed. There we found them wrapped up in the thin plastic that everything else is wrapped in, they looked so beautiful. We took the out of their hiding place and my dad put me down. He told me to try them on. I followed his orders and they fit perfectly. He carried me back to the checkout stand like he was carrying a hot dog. He put me down and I leaned against the candy shelves hoping I wouldn't knock all the candy down. Before we got in the car I unwrapped them and started to use them. They started to rub against my armpits, which I knew would be uncomfortable for vacation. It was the smallest size, we did already unwrap them. "So what" I thought to myself. We piled into the car and drove off.
When we got home I started to use them like an obsession. They practically became my best friend. By the time I had to go to bed I had red marks in my armpits. Tomorrow we would go on vacation. The next day we got in the and put the crutches in the back. We drove off. After a couple hours of reading I dozed off."WE'RE HERE!" my brother screamed. At least I was in the back so his shouts didn't wake me up. We all got out of the car except me, who was stuck in the back screaming at my brother who didn't put down the seat so I could get out. But once I opened my eyes all I did was realized that all I would get from this trip was really red armpits from the crutches and a crummy look at the Monterrey Bay Aquarium in a wheelchair, oh, one more thing, grossed out when I watched people put starfish one their arms. Gross.

True Blue and Snap Crackle, by Becca and Olivia Kallai

"Why do you have to be so sticky, True Blue?" asked Snap Crackle.

"That's just how I'm made, and why do you have to be so loud every time I touch you?" answered True Blue.

"I don't know, but why are you the one everyone likes, and not me?  Because I don't have taste?  Maybe I shouldn't even be keeping you warm until someone comes along and unwraps you," snapped Snap Crackle.

"You are so disrespectful," yelled True Blue.

"I am not disrespectful,"called Snap Crackle.

"Oh, be quiet," said True Blue.

"Fine.  Someone is coming, look appetizing," giggled Snap Crackle.

"They're getting closer.  Closer.  Oh!  They went for the Sour Skittles again.  Why do Skittles always get what they want and we don't?" asked True Blue.

"Well, it's all your fault.  You didn't look tasty enough," snapped Snap Crackle.

"Hey, it's not my fault I got stale because people never pick my delicious body of flavor.  Oh, and keep me warmer!" screamed True Blue.

"Stop complaining about 'Oh, I'm stale this' and 'Oh, I'm cold that'" yelled Snap Crackle.

"Shh, someone's coming," whispered True Blue.

"They picked us! They picked us!" Snap Crackle exclaimed quietly.

"Don't get your hopes up, it is just an elderly guy," True Blue murmured quietly.

"Hey! Don't throw us on the counter so hard, we are breakable," yelled Snap Crackle to the elderly man.

"They never hear us. Don't even bother telling him ," murmured True Blue.

"We are finally out of that store. The Lollipops were starting to creep me out," said Snap Crackle.

"But this place isn't any better.  We are inside his pocket.  Oh, hi M&M's, did he forget to eat you, too?" asked True Blue.

"Oh of course he did," thought Snap Crackle.

Mystery Writing, by Olivia Falco and Sierra

"Hey, leather buddy! Sup!" screamed Skirt.
"Not much! I think they forgot to brush her star, because man am I dusty!" replied Crown Piece.
"Are you kidding me? I haven't been polished since World War 2! I think leather CPR is calling my name!" informed Flap.
"Ya, I feel pretty bad for pour little curb chain down there. I think Pebbles slobbered on him!" Cheek Piece cried out.
"I think the billet straps are about to snap! Can you tell what gait we're traveling at?" questioned Cantal.
"I hope Simon doesn't come. Snaffle came out bent when he was done!" whined Brow band.
"Yeah Mac, McFatty squished me the last time he drove in!" asserted Seat.
"Ha,ha, little seat can't hold big fatty!" hollered Throat Latch.
"Finally! We're almost done being pulled and pushed around. I wonder if we're done for the day? Then I can chill-ax!" panted Croupper.
"I know how you feel, except I'm all slimy and covered in grass!" poor Bit puffed out.
"You wanna hear a joke?" asked D-ring.
"Sure, but it better be a good one, not one of those stupid bad ones. You really need to learn how to say a joke!" Chin strap moaned.
     "Knock, knock!" spoke D-ring.
    "Who's there?" cried  Martingale.
    "Kung," laughed  Pommel.
    "Kung who?"  Nose band replied.
"Kung Fu Panda!" Knee Roll said cracking up.
"That wasn't very funny! I told you to make me laugh, not die of boredom," piped Curb Chain.
"Yeah it was! Get it? Kung...KUNG FU PANDA! HAHAHA!" laughed Skirt.
"So who are we fools? Huh, bet you can't guess!" they all yelled.

Who Are We? by Abby and Talia

"Hey my dairy-rockin' buddy. How you doin'? blurted the sweet chunky treat.
" I'm good. Do you want to come over for a dunk?" questioned the smooth white lactose .
"Thanks for the offer, I would go, but don't want to get soggy, or else I might get caught by Santa." sighed crumbled chocolate mess sadly.
"OK smart idea I wouldn't want to get messy either." sputtered the dairy delight.
"You would think that I would have a bigger brain, but it all butter and chocolate from my top half up. What do you know, I am still pretty sharp, don't you think?" said the complacent sugar treat.
"Yes I think your very smart in fact I think your smarter than me!" replied the dairy not even realizing his friend was boasting.
" I thought it would be pretty suspicious to have an untouched soggy treat. Eh?" questioned the crumbly dessert.
"I agree smarty." said the drink under his breath, now realizing the snarky treat.
" So... what have you done since last night?" asked the baked dough trying to start a conversation "I have had a pretty short boring life since I came out of the oven..."he said the now sad and upset.
" Well, I, " said the 2% getting back at his friend, now boasting himself, "was abruptly disrupted when I was picked up from the store, bagged and brought home, in a bumpy car ride. To my surprise, I was put back into my cool living environment. I was quite comfortable until I was poured out and stuck in this glass. Luckily I was spared for Santa and not drinkin'. "
" Shhhhh... I think I hear something." said the smart and now scared show-off in a low tone.
    Thump Thump Thump.
"Barbara! What is in the fridge? I can't get any work done. I need something." Screamed a man. "This paper is due tomorrow.  Jeez, my boss should cut me some slack. I need you to  get this done... blah blah blah"   mocked the man as he mumbled to himself. "
" I think I have a plan... if you just follow me we, you can go down the drain, and I can roll down the street... Until then,  you have to help" said the smart dough now realizing that they were in great danger of being  eaten."OK, I am going to push you off the counter and down the drain..."
"But-" said the drink trying to butt in, but was not useful
"One-two-three! Huff, huff. What do you think about a low-fat diet? What the heck are you eating?" wondered the treat trying to push his off the counter.
"That's not me, it's the glass!" said the drink is his defense.
"I need to go faster, Almost there-" huffed the poor treat, but before he could finish, the drink was already down the drain.
Pl up, pl up, pl up
"There my buddy goes..." sighed the sugar filled  yummy chewy delight.
"Thankkkkkkk youuuuuuuu" yelled the thankful white protein.
"Now it is just me, here goes nothing...Aghhhhhhhhhhhhh" yelled the round treat, as he leaped off the counter, and out the doggy door.

     Epilogue

Now the sugar packed treat is living in the  New York dump with his buddy the white drink, after they found each other by the pipes.  They are very happy, and are quite satisfied in their new living space, behind a cabinet, dealing with their "friends" the ants...

The Tale of Scratch and Poker, by Eric and Jackson

"What's up dude, I've got to go trim myself", exclaimed Scratch.

"Good for you'', Poker replied, ''I've got to go point something out".

''Sweet, I just got out of my trim and bath'', Scratch resolved.

"Now that my pointing is done, why don't we go do something more fun?" Poker suggested.

"Sorry, I just found out I have to go digging in the garden with my master'', Scratch said feeling a bit down.

''Didn't you just take a bath?'', Poker asked.

'' Ya'', Scratch confirmed,''if I knew I was going digging now I wouldn't have taken one!"

"Hey, if someone had to figure out what we are without us telling them, do you think they would get it right?", Poker asked.

''No way, we are way to interesting yeah know what I mean'', Scratch replied.

"Ya, we have a pretty cool job in life. I have to admit. It's not my first choice but its pretty sweet anyways!", Poker announced.

"I've never noticed this but you're really tall and skinny'', Scratch pointed out.

"You now what I really hate?", Poker asked.

    ''No'', Scratch said.

"I really hate it when my master is jogging and I get flung all over the place, I hate that more than anything else." Poker answered.

''Yeah, I hate when I get jammed into a wall and I get pulled back an I get injured'', Scratch added.

"I also really hate when my master cracks me it feels like my bone is getting pulled apart.", Poker added.

''Wait, why are we talking about two different masters? We both have the same master, right?'', Scratch wondered.

    ''Oh right'', Poker admitted,''I forgot."

''The only thing I like about this job is that I get to be close to my master'', Scratch said.

"Well, my favorite part of the job is that I don't need to eat drink or sleep like my master does its really handy so I don't get heat stroke and stuff", Poker replied.

''I also like that I have my own personal bed'', Scratch added.

"See you later, master calls", Poker said.

''See you neighbor I'm going to go rest, are you still listening, hello, hello?'', Scratch asked without a reply.

"Ya sure because pizza is pretty tasty if you know what I mean,"Ballzer remarked.
"I do know what you mean,"Skinny String
"Cool, do you want to go to my beach house in Hawaii?," Ballzer asked.

"Why? You don't like me? Jerk!,"Ballzer screamed.
"Because I have to go to Mexico with my nanny,"Skinny String explained to Ballzer.
"Fine. Foam and I will have lots of fun in Hawaii!,"Ballzer squealed.

Blue and Foam, by William and Patrick

"Hey, Blue, the last guy who came in here didn't use us. What's up with that?" asked Foam.

"I don't know. I wish he did, because I have mold growing on me in this tube," exclaimed Blue.

"I wonder why all the people are in such hurry to leave?" questioned Foam.

"I don't know, I think its because they have better things to do than use us," said Blue.

"I know, it is sort of disgusting that they don't use us,  but if you think about it, we are in a pretty good position," stated Foam.

"What do you mean by that, Foam?" asked Blue.

"Well they're not touching us. Isn't that good," said Foam with glee.

"Yeah you're right, I think I should start listening to you more often!" said Blue.

"Oh, here comes another guy, get ready!" said Foam with power.

"No, that's not a guy, that's a dog wondering around in the wrong place!" Blue said with frustration.

"Sorry, I can't really see well with this foam surrounding my eyes" apologized Foam.

"That's o.k., I used to be the same way, till there was a hole in this thing," said Blue.

"Have you thought about that, when the next time someone uses us, we are going to die. So I hope no one uses us in a while," exclaimed Foam.

"Ya, I hope so too," Blue said tiredly.

"GUESS WHO WE ARE!" they yelled together!
